Telco Service/Bandwidth
The "backbone" data center is fed by both fiber optics and
standard copper. Two telcos provide separate fiber entrances to the building. There are
two OC3 cabinets from Electric Lightwave and Qwest allowing for 311.04 Mbps of available
bandwidth over the optical SONET ring backbone network. Additionally, a Sprint T1 over
copper serves as tertiary redundancy. We can provide circuits up to DS3 into the data
center for customer use at the cabinets.
Internet connection redundancy
Three Internet backbone providers are utilized in a multi-homed architecture, using the
BGP protocol to determine fastest Internet routes. If one backbone provider becomes
unavailable, another takes the traffic until capacity is restored. This redundancy ensures
very high network availability.
Security
The data center is secured by a card-access security system. Additionally, the data center
has its own card-access which allows entrance only to network administrators and
co-location customers. A broadband connected CCTV monitoring and recording system captures
all motion events in the data center. Movement detected after business hours triggers
alphanumeric paging to the data center staff who can respond by viewing live video via
web.
Network Equipment
Network equipment vendors include Cisco Systems, Lucent, Intel®, APC, IBM, HP, and
Fujitsu.
Power redundancy
Should a power outage occur, our 16Kva APC Symetra UPS will provide up to ten minutes of
battery back-up until the transfer switch transfers power to our 37Kw Onan generator until
LAN power is restored.
Data backup
A 1.4 terabyte IBM Ultrium tape library backs up all data on our servers nightly. A
complete set of data is secured off-site each night.
